Alabama Immigration Law Compliance Guidelines

Dear Sponsors:
ALABAMA IMMIGRATION LAW COMPLIANCE GUIDELINES
FOR CONTRACTORS AND VENDORS DOING BUSINESS WITH
THE ALABAMA STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

Section 9 of Alabama Act No. 2011-535 entitled the “Beason-Hammon Alabama Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act” (http://www.ago.state.al.us/File-Immigration-AL-Law-2011-535) requires that, as a condition for the award of a contract to a business entity or employer that employs one or more employees working in Alabama, the business entity or employer provide an affidavit and documentation of enrollment in the Federal E-Verify program. During the performance of the contract, the business entity or employer shall participate in the E-Verify program and shall verify every employee that is required to be verified according to the applicable federal rules and regulations. The attached Affidavit For Business Entity/Employer/Contractor and the entity’s E-Verify Memorandum of Understanding must be included with the bid or contract. If you do not believe these requirements are applicable to your entity, include an explanation justifying such exemption.

An entity can obtain the E-Verify Memorandum of Understanding upon completion in the E-Verify enrollment process located at the federal web site www.uscis.gov/everify or at the Alabama Department of Homeland Security web site http://immigration.alabama.gov. The Alabama Department of Homeland Security has established an E-Verify employer agent account for any business entity or employer with 25 or fewer employees that will provide a participating business entity or employer with the required documentation of enrollment in the E-Verify program.

You may scan and e-email your documents to: immigrations@ALSDE.edu

Family Daycare Homes Has Gone Paperless!

As of October 1st, Family Daycare Homes' sponsors have gone paperless! These sponsors attended annual training, conducted by Mr. Ben Guthrie, where they received instructions for entering their institution, facilites, budget, and management plan applications. Although this was a lengthy and, perhaps exhaustive endeavor, only annual updating will be needed in the future! This online version will make monthly claims and ammendments to applications much easier. Since everything is done electronically, sponsors will be able to see their potential reimbursements instantly! Adding new sponsors will be much easier for the sponsor and the state without an endless paper chain and the cost of mailing. We hope that this new application process will improve documentation and efficiency in Family Daycare Homes. Now that all information has been entered, what do you think?
Do you think that filing monthly claims electronically will be much easier? Let us hear from you!

The National Food Service Management Institute and Team Nutrition have developed an online calculator to be used with the USDA Food Buying Guide for Child Nutrition Programs (FBG). The interactive and simple to use calculator allows child nutrition professionals to build shopping lists of foods from the FBG and determine how much of each item to purchase to provide enough servings for the children in their program.

You can find the online calculator by visiting: http://fbg.nfsmi.org/.

For more information about the Food Buying Guide or to download your free copy, visit the Team Nutrition Website at: http://www.fns.usda.gov/tn/resources/foodbuyingguide.html.
